Dolls houses are certainly not a new phenomenon! The earliest records date back to the 16^th century but these houses, also known as ‘baby houses’ tended to be replica’s of wealthy family homes. They were exquisite records of our times.

It was during the Victorian era that dolls houses became popular. By the late 1800s, dolls houses were being used as a means of demonstrating household management and as time went on, children’s nurseries were equipped with fully-furnished dolls’ houses, and they became a toy.

Since the 1970’s this hobby has grown significantly and is now enjoyed by so many across the world.

Queen Mary’s dolls house, on view at Windsor Castle, is one of the best known miniature houses.
